Patio Decorating Ideas

Patio Decorating Ideas

Patio decorations can transform an ordinary outdoor space into a comfortable retreat or a visual delight for you and your guests. With some imagination, you can recreate your patio without an overwhelming expense. You may even have items around your home that you can incorporate into the decorating scheme to save some money. Does this Spark an idea?

Plant Decor

Place an old wooden chair on the patio and put a potted plant in its seat. Group potted plants of different sizes together with interesting rocks or pieces of driftwood. Surround the patio area with potted flowers and plants for a courtyard effect. Stagger old cinder blocks to create a wall to place potted plants. Re-purpose an old hutch as a plant stand. Suspend plants from hooks or hang planters on the walls full of herbs or flowers.

Seating and Rugs

Place a colorful rug on the patio for interest or paint a rug onto the patio with the help of a stencil. Borrow a rug from the indoors if you like. Place a couple of bistro table and chair sets on the rug for an open air cafe feel. Recover old furniture cushions for a fresh new look or shop for dining chair cushions at a discount store and use them on your patio furniture. If you use nonweatherproof rugs or cushions, consider bringing them indoors when you are not using your patio.

Lighting

Incorporate ambient lighting in the form of paper lanterns, hanging lanterns or light strings. Place colorful, scented candles on tables to appeal to the senses. Station solar-powered landscaping lights in the soil surrounding the patio.
