Contemporary Dressing Table Styles

Contemporary Dressing Table Styles

Dressing tables, which are sometimes used as a vanity in the bedroom, are available in a number of styles and colors. The construction of dressing tables is also indicative of the decade they may have been most famous in, so you can choose a furniture piece that fits your decorative style and that matches your bedroom's color scheme. Does this Spark an idea?

Victorian Style

A dressing table that displays Victorian-style decor is often made of light-colored wood but can also be painted white. The handles are often in a distressed metal shade like brass or silver. Carvings were common in Victorian furniture, so a dressing table with images of vines or roses along the edges or on the tabletop will give the furniture a more authentic feel. You can accent the dressing table with a chair or stool that also fits the Victorian theme, such as a stool with a velvet cushion or a wooden chair painted white or silver.

Modern Style

Dressing tables in stark but classic shades like gray, white or black are fitting for a room decorated in modern style. Particularly angular tables will give the bedroom a decidedly modern touch, or you can choose a vanity with a wavy or curvy pattern to serve as the room's signature piece. Add a pop of color to your modern bedroom by choosing a chair for the dressing table in a striking shade like cherry red or burnt orange, or select a metallic shade like platinum for the chair or chair cushion for a slightly monochromatic look.

Colonial Style

Medium and dark shades of wood will complement a Colonial style dressing table nicely. Gold or bronze-colored handles are an elegant addition to dressing tables made of rich brown or amber-colored wood. A number of these dressing tables also come with mirrors trimmed in the same shade of wood, or you can paint the mirrors a colonial-themed hue like dusty rose or hunter green to bring more attention to the dressing table area.

Classic Style

Classic style vanities will accent rooms with varying decor schemes. The slim, angular shape of the tables is appropriate for a modern room while the medium-colored honey or tan wood is an attractive addition to a bedroom adorned with Mediterranean decor. You can add more color to the dressing table by trimming the furniture in naval blue or olive green paint or choosing models with small windows of frosted or white glass that accent the dressing table drawers.
