At your next event, whether a wedding, family reunion or large party, consider a buffet to feed your guests. Instead of serving run-of-the-mill food, serve exotic cuisine or food that all ties in together with a specific theme. Make it look more festive by decorating the buffet table items that support your theme. Does this Spark an idea?
Seasonal Fare
Have the caterer prepare food that goes with the season. For example, in summer have the caterer prepare a picnic-themed buffet complete with salad, fried chicken, peach cobbler, fresh fruit, potato salad and coleslaw. During the fall, have the caterer make a Thanksgiving-themed buffet. Have them serve items like roasted turkey with gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. During the winter, have the caterer serve roasted pork tenderloin, steamed vegetables, potatoes au gratin and apple pie. During the spring, serve a fresh salad, roasted salmon, fruit salad and lemon bars. Decorate the buffet area accordingly with items that represent the seasons (pine cones, gourds, fresh flowers, colored leaves, etc.)
Ethnic Food
Have the caterer serve Italian, Chinese, Mexican or Indian food, or any type of ethnic food you enjoy. If the caterer was serving Mexican food, items that could be included are enchiladas, Spanish rice, fresh tortillas, taquitos, flan and Mexican ice cream. The buffet could even have a taco bar where guests can create their own tacos with different ingredients. If you want to do Italian, have the caterer serve items like eggplant or chicken parmesan, stuffed manicotti, tiramisu, risotto and bruschetta. Offer a pasta bar with different toppings and sauces.
Comfort Food
Have a comfort food buffet. For example, serve meat items served like chicken pot pie, pot roast, lasagna, fried chicken, pork chops, chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, sloppy Joes and chicken Parmesan. Serve side items like macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, cornbread, potato salad and baked beans. Desserts could include apple pie, coffee cake, peach cobbler, chocolate cake and tapioca pudding.
