Bathroom vanities, or dressing tables, have multiple purposes depending on their design style. Some are created with a sink, while others serve as surface space to hold toiletry items and cosmetics. Create a unique bathroom vanity by combining eye-catching accessories and furnishings. Does this Spark an idea?
Modern vs. Traditional
Over a floating cabinet, place a large oval mirror in a Victorian style frame. Victorian frames are typically made of ornately carved wood or ceramic. Choose a frame that is dark in color. As a contrast, choose white lacquer cabinetry with a bowl sink on top to be placed underneath the large mirror. Use stencil and black paint to add a geometric design on one side of the cabinet creating an asymmetrical look. Paint the wall behind the mirror in a orange, red or a golden yellow. The result is a combination of traditional and modern furniture pieces into an edgy look.
Baskets and Shelving
Instead of using a table or cabinet, try shelving with natural colored baskets underneath a mounted borderless mirror for your bathroom vanity. Shelves are easy to install and come in a variety of textures from wood to mesh. Baskets are a great option for keeping items compartmentalized for ease of use. Reserve the top shelf for two small live plants on either side of the mirror. This design can be used to create a double vanity on either side of one sink.
Entertainment Vanity
Repurpose a television entertainment center by converting it into a bathroom vanity. Raise the entertainment center by adding wooden blocks on each end so that the opening for the television is at eye level. The blocks should match the color of the vanity, thus, staining or painting may be necessary. Remove the center piece where the TV would normally sit so that the furniture fits around the sink. Retouch exposed areas with paint. Install a mirror surrounded by a strip of lights where the television would normally be placed. This vanity idea works best in an oversized bathroom.
